Pirates and Buried Treasure

We spent the day learning about pirates!! Fun!! We made swords from cardboard of an old diaper box and eye patches using eye bandages and eye patch clip art I printed. I made a map for Harry, and I hide the buried treasure (my car keys) under an X. He had sooooooo much fun!!!

Alphabet and Number Fishing

Super easy!! Draw and cut out fish. Draw numbers and letters them. Put yarn and tape on a stick, and go fishing!! :)

Winter Olympics For Toddlers

Now... Here is how you make extra cold winter days better!! We created our own winter Olympics! Fun!!

First, we started out by assembling gold medals, which consisted of:
1. Yarn
2. Yellow construction paper
3. Glitter
4. Glue

Second, we made the Olympic torch which consisted of:
1. Empty paper towel roll
2. Orange and yellow construction paper
3. Glue

Third, we made the Olympic symbol which consisted of:
1. Red, blue, green, yellow, and black construction paper
2. Glue

Then, we went outside and carried the torch into the ceremony. I made a little race too by cutting a long piece of yarn and putting a "Start" and "Finish" sign on each end. We even wore bib numbers too, and Harry was number #1. Ha! We took turns running the race! Harry won too!! Wooooo!! Harry earned his gold medal outside.

Then we went back inside the house for a ball toss! We set up plastic cups, and you had to knock them over with a ball!

The Winter Olympic games were a lot of fun for us!!! :)

Win or Lose...

"You can neither win nor lose if you don't run the race." --David Bowie

This quote speaks to me in so many ways, and it's so true and powerful. David Bowie was extremely talented, and I loved his music. So sad to see him go...

Fun fact: David Bowie and I have the same birthday too!

Searching for Safe Food

Since Harry is allergic to all nuts, it is very important for us to know what foods are safe for him... We periodically review his allergies too. Last week, we went a food label hunt for safe foods. Harry can read now, so I thought it was a good idea to review his allergies again. We found foods that were safe and food that were not safe. Now, there are other foods that don't necessarily say "nut free" on the labels, and they are okay to eat. You just have to check with the company.

The Old Fashioned Nickelodeon Theatres

A brief history moment...

"The nickelodeon was the first type of indoor exhibition space dedicated to showing projected motion pictures. Usually set up in converted storefronts, these small, simple theaters charged five cents for admission and flourished from about 1905 to 1915.

"Nickelodeon" was concocted from nickel, the name of the U.S. five-cent coin, and the ancient Greek wordodeion, a roofed-over theater, the latter indirectly by way of the Odéon in Paris, emblematic of a very large and luxurious theater much as Ritz was of a grand hotel. For unknown reasons, in 1949 the lyricist of a popular song, Music! Music! Music!, incorporated the refrain "Put another nickel in, in the nickelodeon...", evidently referring to either a jukebox or a mechanical musical instrument such as a coin-operated player piano or orchestrion. The meaning of the word has been muddied ever since. In fact, when it was current in the early 20th century, it was used only to refer to a small five-cent theater and not to any coin-in-the-slot machine, including amusement arcade motion picture viewers such as the Kinetoscope andMutoscope."

Last week we learned about the old Nickelodeon Theatres. We set up a ticket booth, charged only a nickel for tickets, and we put on several funny plays! We dressed up in goofy costumes, glasses, and danced to funny music too.

Post Office!!

A couple weeks ago, we also created our own post office! Harry (and the twins I take care of) wrote each other letters or drew each other pictures. Then, they had to put them in envelopes and purchase stamps from me. Afterwards, they put them in the mail box, and mail man Harry collected them. He sorted the mail into the correct baskets, and then they enjoyed opening their letters. It was a lot of fun!!

Harry's Farmer's Market!

A couple weeks ago when we learned about money, I set up a Farmer's Market. It was fun! We made prices for the food and other items. Harry went shopping, and he picked out what we wanted. Then, he had to check out and pay for his items. It was a great way to learn about money and how to shop!!

The Lunch Box Cafe!

We spent a week learning about money. So, I set up a restaurant for Harry. It was great! I made a host stand, with a cash register, and I made menus, and tables. It was a great success. This activity also taught team work, and it taught Harry how to read a menu and order for himself. So much fun!!
