Airports and Airplanes

To go along with transportation, I made an airport and airplane. I'm extremely proud of this activity!!!

I Google searched, and I found the airplane tickets, boarding, passports through airport clipart. I also found pictures and departure information on Google from the Metro Detroit Airport. All of this helped simulate a real airport!

The security check in it made from aluminum foil wrapped around a goldfish cracker box and construction paper.

The airplane is made from my treadmill box. I cut out the airplane shaped, painted it, and then glued windows and a wing on it. I put chairs behind to represent airplane seats.

We had soooooooo much fun too!!! We checked each other in, went through security, and we flew our airplane all over the place. :)

Traffic and Cars

Going along with transportation, we made traffic lights, painted with cars, sorted cars, made car footprints, had a car wash, made cars from paper towel rolls, and matched traffic symbols. We also learned about traffic symbols. (I printed Clipart from Google.)

Parking Garage

Using a box from Costco and construction paper, I made a color coated parking garage. The goal is to park the cars by color.

Sailboats

Last week, we also learned about transportation! We made sailboats out of sponges, toothpicks, and paper. I filled up a small container of water, and we raced them! Fun!

Brush your Teeth!

Last week, we learned about teeth. We did some fun activities to go along with it. Plus, we did several worksheets from www.teacherspayteachers.com.

These are some good brushing activities for kids!

#1
We made a mouth with red paper and teeth out of jelly beans. We crumbled up Oreos and placed them on top of the teeth like dirt. Then with the toothbrush, we brushed them clean!

#2
I cut out teeth from white paper and placed them in bags. I painted brown paint around the bag and let it dry. Once it was dry, we had to dip the paintbrushes in water to clean the teeth!

Rockets

Ok, this went along with the solar system. I will admit. This is my pathetic attempt at making rockets. Ha ha. You cut the paper in the shape of a rocket, and then glue the sides. Color the outside of it. Once the glue dries, stick a straw in the middle, and blow. Now, you are "blasting off" into space! Kinda cheesy, but kids love it!

Van Gogh's Starry Night, Remade

Harry remade Van Gogh's Starry Night and added his own touches. :)

Super Novas!

Using the star cookie tray, I made star ice cubes and dyed them yellow. Once frozen, I popped them out, and we used tools to smash the stars to make them explode.

**This demonstrates a super nova. Stars explode when they die, so we reenacted it!**

Moon dough!

To make this moon dough, you can use whatever amount of flour and water you want/need to make the dough crumbly yet elastic. (Typically you need more flour than water.)

Star Addition

Pick an orange and pink number.
Count the stars.
Find the yellow number for the total.. :)

Edible Solar System

Using different sized food items in order to represent the sun, planets, our moon, and asteroid belt. :)

Phases of the Moon!

We made the phases of the moon using Oreos cookies. Fun! We took the Oreo cookies apart, and we used spoons to carve out the phases of the moon. Easy and delicious! ;)

**I found the phases of the moon clipart on Google Images.**

Fizzy stars

For the Presidents Day and the solar system, we made fizzy stars!!

What to do:

1. Mix baking soda and water together and pour into a star cookie tray. Add food coloring to the stars.

2. Freeze the stars.

3. Once frozen, pop them out, and pour vinegar on them. The stars dissolve and melt! :)

Homemade constellations

We learned about the solar system, so we made our own constellations. Fun! Cut out black circles from construction paper, and tape it to the flashlight. Poke holes on the black circles, and turn on the flashlight. Point the flashlight at the way to see the "stars." Pretty cool!!

**We also did several worksheets that I downloaded from www.teacherspayteachers.com**
